Napoleon III made it his mission to modernize the French capital city after spending some time in London. He employed Georges-Eugène Haussmann to carry out this massive urban renewal program, which saw new boulevards, parks and public works over a period of 17 years. Overcrowded and unhealthy medival neighboorhoods were demolished to make space for wide avenues, parks, squares, fountains, sewers, and aqueducts. Through this program, we learn how this enormous project was executed.

This Town Did The Impossible
This Town Did The Impossible City Transformation
What happens if you totally transform a town? This suburb was dominated by modernist urbanism and was transformed by introducing traditional, mixed use urban fabric, beautiful architecture inspired by its local traditions, a lot of green and a more balanced housing supply.
In this video you'll hear everything about Le Plessis-Robinson, a town in the suburbs of Paris, and how it was completely transformed - and I'll give 7 lessons of how this town did it.

Why Paris Looks Weird
Please check out Morning Brew - a business, finance, & tech newsletter I actually read. (Plus, it's free): https://morningbrewdaily.com/hoog
This is a video on the urban planning behind Paris that was led by Haussmann. It describes him, Louis Napoleon, and his team's strategy regarding roads, creating focal points like the Arc de Trimoph, overall architecture, green spaces, limestone, wrought iron, and water management.
There are so many details I had to gloss over because of the length of the video, like the larger architectural feats like Les Halles, Louis Napoleon's role in the overall process and his obsession with urban planning, the extent of the destruction and the entire network they constructed, and the more specific requirements they had for overall buildings and street furnitu...

This is a video on...
There are so many details I had to gloss over because of the length of the video, like the larger architectural feats like Les Halles, Louis Napoleon's role in the overall process and his obsession with urban planning, the extent of the destruction and the entire network they constructed, and the more specific requirements they had for overall buildings and street furniture and boulevards.
